Not enough movies put movie stars in mechas and task them with saving the world.But that’s exactly what’s in the Netflix movie atlas Doing it with Jennifer Lopez.
She plays Atlas Shepherd, “a brilliant but cynical data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence” who joins a team designed to protect renegade robots. According to Netflix, Atlas and said machine happen to have a “mysterious past.” Inevitably, things don’t go as planned. Atlas finds herself stranded on a distant planet (far from any city block) with a robot she must trust to help her protect life back home.
The first trailer doesn’t shed much more light on the plot, but it does have a lot of explosive visuals. Titanfall This one comes to mind, especially since it shows a mech falling from the sky to the ground. Sadly, this is probably the closest we’ll get to an actual Titanfall movie.
atlas Also starring Simu Liu and Sterling K. Brown. The film is directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas, Rampage). The series will be released on Netflix on May 24. In the meantime, the Engadget team couldn’t help but come up with some alternative videos:
